MQA Qiraath, Public Speaking & Hifdh Competition 2017

We are pleased to announce Melbourne Quran Academy’s annual competition will be held in August 2017. Please note, this year’s competition will consist of two events:

  1. Competition Day
  2. Awards Night

Date: 26th August 2017
Time: 5pm onwards
Location: Mulgrave Community Centre

All participants are required to attend both events. Competition winners will be announced at the awards night and selected participants may be asked to take the stage again.
The awards night will conclude with dinner Insha Allah.

Competition categories and judges

There will be three categories of competition including:

  • Qiraath (Reading)- Participants are required to read selected passages from the Quran (Quran will be permitted on stage with them). Please see below for a list of Surahs specified according to age group.
  • Hifdh (Memorising)- Participants are required to memorise selected passages from the Quran and read these from memory on stage (Quran will not be permitted on stage with them) . Please see below for a list of Surahs specified according to age group.
  • Public speaking – Participants will be required to prepare a speech based on the specified category for their selected age group. Please note, participants can only choose from the topics that have been selected for their age group.

Registration FEE

There will be registration fee to enter your child into the competition.
The fees will be as follows :
$10 per child
$20 for 2 children
$30 for 3 children
$40 for 4 children
and $50 for any number of children

This will include the following :

  • Dinner for the participants
  • Dinner for both parents on the awards night,
  • Prizes and participation gifts for all who attend
  • and also to ensure that we provide a Quran competition that we can all benefit from Inshallah.

Please note – The events organised Melbourne Quran Academy is 100% not for profit and all funds collected will be put back towards the functions/events that we are hosting.

QIRAATH (READING) CONTEST

This contest will consist of 2 age categories:
Qirath
A) 8 to 11 years
B) 12 and above
Judging criteria (out of 100):
Pronunciation – (Makhraj) 40
Tune/Voice- 30
Tajweed 30
Total 100

  • Surah will be given to Qiraath participants.
  • Different surahs will be given to each age category.
  • There will be a time limit of 5-7 Minutes per candidate
  • Participants are required to bring their own Quran

Surah’s for each category:
A) 8-11 years – Surah Rahman
B) 12 and above – Whole Quran (will be asked to read from anywhere in the quran)

HIFDH (MEMORISATION) CONTEST

This contest will consist of 3 age categories:
A) 4 to 7 years
B) 8 to 11 years
C) 12 and above

Judging criteria (out of 100):
Memorisation- 40
Tune/Voice- 30
Tajweed 30
Total 100

  • Surah will be given to Hifdh participants.
  • Different surahs will be given to each age category.
  • There will be a time limit of 7 Minutes per candidate
  • Participants are required to bring their own Quran
  • Judges will choose any surah from the Surahs listed below

Surah’s for each category :
A) 4-7 years – Surah Al Aadiyath to Nas
B) 8 to 11 years – Surah Burooj to Al Aadiyath
C) 12 years and above – The following surahs
i. Surah Yaseen
ii. Juz 29 (Surah Mulk to Surah Mursalath)

 

PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST

This contest will consist of 3 age categories:
A) 4 – 7 Years
B) 8-11 Years
C) 12 and above

  • 3 topics on Islam will be provided per age group (Excluding the the 4-7 Age group)
  • Participants are to choose 1 topic to speak on
  • Time duration will be of 4 minutes maximum for each participant.
  • The judging will take into account the following
    • Presentation
    • Clarity
    • Expression
    • Language
    • Information

 

Rules

  • All participants are required to be in Islamic attire. For males, this includes a prayer cap, and for females, a scarf.
  • The decision of the judges is final
  • All participants should be on time
  • Timing for each participant will be strictly observed
  • Participants have to choose 1 topic from the topics listed below

Topics for each category:
A) 4-7 Years–

  • Choose a surah and explain the surah in English, Arabic and its significance

B) 8 to 11 years –

  • The coming of Dajjal
  • Womens rights in Islam
  • Life and Lessons from Umar Bin Khattab (R.A)

C) 12 and above –

  • Yajooj and Majooj (Gog and Magog) – Who are they and their 2nd arrival?
  • Sura Al-Asr, it’s relevance to time and function of man
  • Islamic conquest/rule over Spain!
